I was thinking of commenting on the curious geo-politics of it all, with Morvania, this strange Germanic nation on the Mediterranean, where, judging by the local folklore, everyone seems to be Jewish. But, in the end, what can you do? I think we just have to accept that, in those days, to Americans, Europe was a strange and far away place filled with odd and peculiarly interchangeable lands.

As for the Doom thing. If I remember right, I think his problem was that half the nations on his border were supposed to be in the Warsaw Pact and the other half in NATO so his options were probably limited. That of course doesn't stop him from trying to do a bit of a land grab in a not too distant future issue of the Hulk.

Hmn, let's see, Like the Mandarin, Tyrannus and Hydra before him, Doom tries to use the Hulk as his super-weapon. I wonder how well that'll all work out for him........?The Cryptic Criticnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1494783406050099511.post-84784269026586796512010-08-04T15:26:37.108-07:002010-08-04T15:26:37.108-07:00This is another one I've never read, but it is...This is another one I've never read, but it is a tale that brings up one of the problems with comic books: the messed-up geography, especially of Europe.

I'll buy Wakanda because it's pretty much the only made-up country in Africa and it could easily be carved out of one of the huge countries like Congo or Tanzania.

But comic book Europe is messed-up! What with Latveria and Morvania and Transia and Symkara and so many others, it gets a bit ridiculous. By the time you start assigning them to a spot on a real map of Europe, Austria and Slovakia and Albania probably end up being about half their original size.

And really, how hard would it be for Doctor Doom, with his advanced technology to annex and such nations that border Latveria? (Maybe this actually happened to Morvania in an untold adventure when the FF and the Avengers were too busy to do anything about it.

And DC Europe is probably worse!Hoosier Xhttp://mushtown.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
